How much does it cost to maintain a website each year in Peru?

The website is paid once. Keeping it online is paid every year, and almost nobody tells you before you sign. These are the real costs, in soles and approximate.

The short answer

Keeping a small business website online in Peru costs roughly S/ 150 to S/ 500 a year if you pay only for the domain and hosting, with the SSL certificate usually included free. Add business email and a monthly maintenance fee, and the bill can reach roughly S/ 1,000 to S/ 4,000 a year or more. What moves the total most is maintenance, not the website.

What you pay every year even if you touch nothing

Two things keep your website online: the domain, which is the address (yourbusiness.pe), and the hosting, which is where the site is stored. Both are rented by the year. If one lapses, the site goes down.

  • A .com domain costs roughly S/ 50 to S/ 90 a year, depending on where you register it.
  • A .pe or .com.pe costs more, roughly S/ 100 to S/ 200 a year.
  • Hosting for a small business site runs about S/ 100 to S/ 400 a year. A site with a few sections doesn't need the most expensive plan.
  • The SSL certificate, the browser padlock, now comes free with almost every host. If someone charges you for it separately, ask why.

These are market ranges, not anyone's price list. Use them to tell whether a quote makes sense.

Email, maintenance and changes: where the bill climbs

Email on your domain helps when you send quotes. A hardware store selling to builders looks more serious writing from [email protected] than from a Gmail. Some hosting plans include basic mailboxes at no extra cost. The well-known email suites charge per user, roughly S/ 200 to S/ 400 a year per account. One or two is enough.

Monthly maintenance varies most. Agencies and freelancers charge roughly S/ 50 to S/ 300 a month, or S/ 600 to S/ 3,600 a year. Under the same name, one makes changes every week and another only checks the site is still up. Get what's included in writing.

Without a monthly fee, you pay for each change when you need it. Adding a Cyber Days promotion or a new section might cost in the region of S/ 50 to S/ 200 if it's small, considerably more if it's big. If your site rarely changes, this works out cheaper.

When monthly maintenance is actually worth it

It depends on how the site is built. A site on a content management system with lots of plugins needs frequent security updates. If nobody applies them, it's exposed within months. There, maintenance has real work to do.

A simple site with no plugins or admin panel to update needs far less. What changes are prices, opening hours and photos, and the owner can do that once shown how. Paying someone monthly for that is usually paying for nothing.

  • Worth it if you change your menu or prices every week and have no time to do it, like a chicken restaurant that runs different deals each day.
  • Not needed if the site changes twice a year and you know how to change a price.

Three cases in numbers

Running the site only, not building it. All approximate.

  1. The minimum: S/ 150 to S/ 500 a year

Domain and hosting, SSL included. A nutritionist's practice that wants to show up on Google and take bookings on WhatsApp needs nothing more. The owner updates the prices herself.

  2. With email: S/ 400 to S/ 1,300 a year

The above plus one or two email accounts on your domain. It makes sense if you quote to companies or issue invoices often.

  3. With maintenance: S/ 1,000 to S/ 4,000 a year, or more

Domain, hosting, email and a monthly fee for someone else to make changes. Justified if the site changes every week or has a shop or bookings to keep running.

Wix-style platforms charge differently: a monthly subscription with hosting included, usually in dollars. Stop paying and the site goes dark. To compare, multiply the fee by twelve and add the domain if it isn't included.

The most common traps

  • The domain or hosting is sold at a promotional price, and in year two the renewal costs double or more. Before paying, find the renewal price: that's the one you'll pay from then on.
  • You're offered «maintenance at S/ 150 a month» with no word on how many changes it covers or how fast. Ask about minimum contracts too.
  • The agency charges little up front, but the site lives on their platform and you never get the files. Stop paying and you're left with nothing.
  • A nephew or freelancer registered the domain with their own details «to move fast». Years later they don't answer, the domain expires and you lose it.
  • Renewal notices go to the provider's email, not yours. You find out when the site no longer loads.

FAQ

Other questions about this

What happens if I don't renew the domain or hosting?

The website and email stop working. A domain usually has a grace period for renewal; after that, the name can become free and anyone can register it, your competitors included.

Is the SSL certificate paid separately?

Almost never. Most hosts include a free one that renews itself. For a small business site, a paid one is rarely needed.

Is it worth paying several years at once?

If you have the money, usually yes. You forget about renewals and, if the provider bills in dollars, those years' exchange rate doesn't affect you. One condition: confirm first that the domain is in your name.

Can I make the changes myself to avoid paying for maintenance?

On a simple site, yes. Changing a price or a photo doesn't take coding if the site is set up for it and someone showed you how. A new section or a shop is better left to someone with experience.

What does it cost to keep a website built by you running?

The website is paid once, from PEN 300, and it's yours, with no mandatory monthly fee. Domain and hosting are separate, every year, at market price. If you prefer, we manage them with the domain in your name and remind you before each renewal. Small changes you make yourself with the video we leave you, maintenance is optional, and big changes are quoted first.
