How to sell online to the provinces from Lima
Outside Lima there are customers who want what you sell and can't find it nearby. The problem is almost never the shipping: it's that they don't trust paying someone they don't know who is hundreds of kilometres away.

To sell to the provinces from Lima you need three things settled and visible: which company ships for you (a courier like Olva Courier, an agency network like Shalom, or an intercity bus company with a parcel service), how payment works (most commonly upfront by Yape, Plin or bank transfer) and how long delivery takes for each region. Put all of it on your website, along with proof that you're a real business, and provincial customers arrive in your WhatsApp already convinced.
Why the provinces are an opportunity
In many cities across the country there's demand for products made or sourced in Lima: clothing from Gamarra, spare parts, supplies, cosmetics, goods for other businesses. Someone in Huancayo, Piura or Puno searches on Google or social media, finds several options and buys from whoever makes them feel safest. If you don't show how you ship, that customer goes elsewhere, even if your price is better.
The three ways to ship
- Home-delivery courier, such as Olva Courier: they collect from your business or take the parcel at their offices and deliver to the customer's address, with a tracking number. The most convenient option for the customer.
- Agency delivery, such as Shalom: you drop the parcel at an agency in Lima and the customer collects it from the agency in their city with their DNI and whatever security details the company asks for. They have branches all over the country and it's usually cheaper than home delivery.
- An intercity transport company with a parcel service: useful for large packages or routes where you already work with a bus company you trust.
Rates and delivery times vary with weight, size and destination, and each company publishes its own. Get quotes from two or three before deciding, and keep a table for the destinations you sell to most so you don't have to look it up for every order.
Payment upfront or cash on delivery?
This is the decision that weighs most in a long-distance sale, because both sides are afraid: you, of shipping and not getting paid; the customer, of paying and not receiving anything.
- Payment upfront: the customer pays by Yape, Plin or bank transfer and you ship. It's the most common and the safest for you. In exchange, you have to earn a lot of trust before payment.
- Cash on delivery: the customer pays on receipt. Some couriers offer to collect for you and then deposit the money, at an extra cost and on their own terms. Read the company's conditions before offering it.
- Partial deposit: the customer pays part of the price, or the shipping cost, upfront and the rest on receipt or before collection. It lowers the risk for both sides and works well with new customers and large orders.
Whatever your policy, write it on the website in plain words. Asking for payment upfront isn't what creates distrust: it's the customer having to ask how it works and getting a different answer each time.

What to put on the website so they trust you
- Coverage and delivery times by region
A shipping section stating which cities you reach, with which company, and roughly how long each region takes: coast, highlands, jungle. Don't promise exact dates that depend on the carrier; give realistic ranges.
- What shipping costs or how it's worked out
If you have fixed rates per region, show them. If it depends on weight, explain how it's calculated and whether freight is paid in Lima or at the destination. A surprise cost at the end is the fastest way to lose a sale.
- How to pay, step by step
Accepted methods, whose name the account is in, and what happens after payment. When the name on the Yape or bank account matches the business or owner shown on the website, customers relax.
- Proof that you're real
Photos of your parcels ready to ship, screenshots of tracking slips (with personal details covered), reviews from provincial customers with their city, your RUC if you have one and, if you have a shop or warehouse, its address and a photo.
- A WhatsApp that answers
The WhatsApp button with the message pre-written, including the product and the destination city. That way you can quote shipping without asking five questions first.
After payment: what makes them buy again
- Send the tracking number or shipping receipt the same day. For a provincial customer, that message is the proof they haven't been scammed.
- Pack for a long journey: a sturdy box, padding, tape on every edge, and a plastic bag if it's going somewhere rainy.
- Issue a boleta or factura when appropriate. Many provincial businesses buy to resell and need a factura.
- Message when the parcel reaches its destination and ask for a review or a photo. Those photos are your best advertising for the next customer in that city.
Mistakes that hold back sales to the provinces
- Writing «we ship all over Peru» and nothing else. The customer wants to know whether you reach their city, with whom and how quickly.
- Payment accounts in someone else's name with no explanation. It's the main reason a new customer backs out at the last moment.
- Prices only by private message. If a provincial customer has to ask for the price and then ask for the shipping cost, they give up before buying.
- Being slow to send the tracking number. Every hour without news after paying is an hour of doubt.
FAQ
Other questions about this
Which is better for shipping to the provinces, Olva or Shalom?
It depends on the destination and what your customer prefers. Olva Courier delivers to the door and is more convenient for the customer; Shalom works with agency pickup and is usually cheaper. Ideally, offer both and get a quote from each company based on weight and destination.
How do I get a provincial customer to trust paying upfront?
Show them you're a real business before they ask: photos of previous shipments, reviews from customers in other cities, your RUC, a payment account in the business's or owner's name, and a clear explanation of how shipping works. And send the tracking number as soon as you dispatch.
Do I need a RUC to sell to the provinces?
You don't need a RUC to send parcels through a courier or an agency. But if your customers are businesses that resell, they'll ask for a factura, and having a RUC also builds more trust. If you're going to sell regularly, it's worth formalising.
Can you put shipping options and times by city on my website?
Yes. We build a shipping section with the companies you use, the regions you reach, approximate delivery times and how payment works, plus a WhatsApp button that sends the order with the destination city already written.
